5 Warning Signs for Lack of Collagen

Is your body showing signs of a collagen deficiency? You can tell if your body is having a collage deficiency if your hair is drying out , your joints are aching, your skin becomes droopy or if your skin is just dull. A collagen deficiency can also cause your skin to wrinkle faster and any existing cellulite to worsen. Since collagen is one of the most ample proteins in our body, it is important for us to make sure our bodies are not collagen-deficient.

With age , our body produces less collagen. This is why it’s ideal that we implement another source of collagen to our body, from foods and supplements. Sea moss also helps promote collagen output in our bodies.

So let’s discuss the warning signs that we experience when our bodies lack collagen.

1. Wrinkling

One of the earlier signs that our body is losing collagen is the loss of skin elasticity and hydration. When our body starts to lose collagen , that causes our skin to lose elasticity and hydration. As we get older , our bodies start to produce less collagen and wrinkles start to make an appearance. Collagen aids our skin’s hydration and elasticity. Lack of collagen makes it difficult for our skin to repair itself to prevent stretch marks and wrinkles. About 70-80% of our skin is made up of collagen , which means a collagen deficiency will affect your skin first. And if your body is struggling to produce more collagen or repair the existing collagen in your body , the existing collagen will be redirected to our bodies vital organs and areas of our body in dire need of repair before it works on our skin. Sometimes there will be very little or no collagen left for skin repairs. This means your skin will start to show signs of sagging and wrinkles fairly rapidly if you don’t have collagen to provide for it.

 2. Cellulite

If your body is struggling to produce collagen it can result in worsening cellulite. Cellulite is caused by the fatty tissues underneath the skin pushing up against the body's connective tissue. The skin starts to pucker and causes cellulite. When the body's collagen starts to reduce, the skin starts to loosen and become less firm , making the skin more vulnerable to damage. This is also known as the “orange peel” look and this worsens with age. Collagen boosts cell renewal and makes the skin more supple. As a result , the obvious signs of cellulite are reduced. If there is not enough collagen being produced in the body, the body will start to show signs of it.

3. Joint pains

Another common problem our bodies cause as a result of the lack of collagen is joint pain. This can be mistaken as a part of natural aging most times , but oftentimes it is a result of a collagen deficiency. Like our skin, the cartilage in our joints requires collagen to repair and rebuild itself. When our bodies start to lack collagen and struggle to produce more , the cartilages in our joints start to suffer and ache. Collagen is a main building block for most of our body's structural parts. It also helps add elasticity to the connective tissue and the cartilage. This provides cushion and flexibility to our joints. Without collagen helping with elasticity , we become more susceptible to damaged cartilages and our joints struggle to function with normal joint movements. Along with our joint cartilages, collagen is important for our ligaments , tendons and bone structures. When all of these components in our bodies are struggling to keep up with daily life due to a lack of collagen , it can cause joint inflammation and suffering for your body.

4. Muscle Recovery Decrease or Muscle Aches

Regardless of whether you are an active person or not , the lack of collagen in your body may cause the body to have muscle aches. Most athletes or active people contribute muscle aches as a part of their workouts. But they do not realize that a collagen deficiency can be causing slower recovery time after these workouts. As I’ve mentioned above, collagen is an essential part of the connective tissue and how they function. It also helps with muscle flexibility and repairs the muscles after we use them. You might even notice your muscles losing mass. If your body is lacking collagen , you may notice your tendons and ligaments becoming stiffer. Collagen aids in recovery for the muscles and even in muscle growth. The two most important amino acids found in collagen are glycine and arginine. These two amino acids help form and repair muscle tissue, heal wounds and injuries, spare tissue waste and aid in muscle development. The lack of collagen can be a result of longer recovery periods and more suffering for the body.

5. Digestive Issues

The lack of collagen can also lead to leaky gut syndrome. Some symptoms of this can be constipation , diarrhea , brain fog, fatigue and a impaired immune system. If you experience any of these symptoms or uncomfortable bloating and other gut issues , it can be an indication that your body is lacking collagen. However, not all gastrointestinal issues are tied to a collagen deficiency but it can be a contributing factor. As you may know now , collage is necessary for our skin, muscles and joints to function, but collagen is also important for organ tissues. When our bodies lack collagen, it becomes harder to repair the intestinal walls and tight junctions which causes a leaky gut to worsen. Which can later lead to inflammation and infection in the gut microbiome. When your body has enough collagen , it makes it easier to repair the stomach and intestinal walls with new smooth cells. If those areas of the body are damaged, a collagen inclusive diet or supplementation can help control a leaky gut and repair the damaged tight junctions in the intestines from becoming worse.

  • This stuff tastes delicious with vanilla oat milk… just shake it up with 2 ice cubes. Only question is why is there so little sea moss? I need to buy the sea moss capsules on the side cause when taken alone my energy was through the roof. With this drink I felt exactly the same.
