What is Sea Moss Powder?

Sea moss, scientifically known as Chondrus crispus, is an edible seaweed that naturally grows along the Atlantic Coasts. It's mostly harvested in Ireland and the Caribbean, where people have used it for centuries in traditional medicines.

Depending on its quality, sea moss can contain up to 92 minerals and vitamins. Therefore, it’s one of the richest foods in nutrients and can help prevent and treat numerous health conditions.

There are several ways to take sea moss, including raw (fresh or dehydrated), in gel, capsules, powder, or even gummies.

While sea moss gel and capsules are the most popular forms of sea moss, the powder is often overlooked. Yet, sea moss powder is an incredibly versatile product that’s convenient to use, just as potent as sea moss gel, and provides the same health benefits!

Sea moss powder is obtained by drying sea moss (preferably in the sun) until it's completely moisture-free. Then, it's ground into a fine powder.

At Organics Nature, we’ve formulated a unique product that combines pure sea moss powder with collagen peptides (hydrolyzed collagen), so you can reap optimized health benefits from these two ingredients.

Sea Moss Powder Benefits

Sea moss powder offers the same health benefits as other forms of sea moss. It can help with the following:

Depending on how you prefer taking or using sea moss (orally, pure, mixed with foods, or topically), you may choose the powder, gel, capsules, or gummies.

Powder vs. gel

While sea moss powder is a dry product, sea moss gel is obtained by blending sea moss with water. Both have similar uses and are tasteless and easy to incorporate into foods or drinks.

One advantage of sea moss powder over the gel is its higher bioavailability (the ability to be absorbed and effectively used by the body). In other words, you need a smaller amount of powder to get the same potency as the gel.

Another advantage of sea moss powder is its longer shelf life. Sea moss gel is a fresh product that lasts up to 4 weeks in the refrigerator, whereas the powder is dried and less prone to contamination and degradation. You can keep it for several months in a cool, dry place.

On the other hand, the gel is more convenient for topical applications as it can be applied pure onto the skin, whereas you would have to mix sea moss powder with water first, which amounts to reconstituting the gel.

Powder vs. capsules

Sea moss capsules and powder are the same product packaged differently: sea moss capsules are encapsulated sea moss powder. Therefore, the health benefits and the bioavailability are the same.

The only differences are convenience and storage. Capsules have a longer shelf life, as the powder is protected from humidity or dust. They’re easier to transport and take with you on a weekend trip or holiday. They also have the advantage of being pre-dosed to the milligram so that you know the exact amount of sea moss you have daily. It might be more manageable when beginning with sea moss.

On the other hand, sea moss powder offers a wider variety of uses. While you can only swallow the capsules, you can cook, make smoothies, make a face mask, or even water the plants with sea moss powder.
